Declaring a new major
I have picked a major. How do I declare?
Major declarations are processed by the Registrar and submitted by the major department advisor, not the Undeclared Advising team.
To declare, change, or remove a major or minor:
- Meet with the major/minor advisor.
- The advisor will submit the Declaration of Major or Minor form on your behalf.
- Review the Steps to Declare before reaching out to the advisor.
- Schedule an appointment with your prospective major advisor through SDSU Navigate.
How Long Can You Stay Undeclared?
Plan to declare your major by your second or third semester. You must declare before reaching 60 units to continue registering for courses.
The Undeclared Student Success Office will provide year-round reminders to meet with a major advisor and update your major interest. Keep us informed about your pre-major plan to avoid registration holds.
